Art of prayer: Are we out of practice? | IndyStar.com:
"For Monty Gaither, Thanksgiving prayer is one of those issues that has been glossed right over in the grand tradition of ignoring family drama.
Gaither is the Arizona state director of American Atheists, and does not pray. Yet, at one turkey dinner, there was no getting around it.
'My oldest sister had recently converted to Pentecost,' says Gaither, 49, of Phoenix. 'She knew I was an atheist, knew that neither my wife nor I or son pray. We all sat down, and as I got ready to help myself, she said, 'Now, let's pray.' Well, while she prayed, I went ahead and filled my plate and my son's plate. She gave me a look, and then we ate.'
There was no discussion, and never another prayer."
Classic tolerance of those who do not like religious ways. Tolerance means we are tolerant of them, not them of us.
